NAPLES: A Naple woman was arrested for breaking into the home of her ex-lover, a Collier County deputy, and threatening to shoot the woman's new girlfriend. Rhonda Faye McKinley, 53, is charged with Armed Burglary, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Criminal Mischief after the Friday night incident. Deputy Mary Joiner and Bonita Dunfee returned to their home around 11:30 p.m. to find McKinley in the house armed with Joiner's service weapon, according to the arrest report. Investigators say McKinley told the deputy she'd shoot Dunfee if the deputy didn't shoot McKinley first. The sheriff's office report says Joiner and McKinley ended their 13-year relationship in May. Joiner was able to wrestle the gun away from McKinley, who then fled the home. As authorities checked over the home, they found a bullet hole in the wall near where the deputy kept her gun. They think McKinley fired the weapon while trying to get it out of the holster... They also found damage to several walls in the deputy's home, as well as several items in the home smashed... By Naples Daily News staff report
Updated Monday, September 28, 2009j
A woman who was confronted over the weekend by a former domestic partner who broke into her home and threatened her current girlfriend is actually a longtime Collier County sheriff’s deputy... Just before midnight Friday, Joiner and her girlfriend, Bonita G. Dunfee, returned to Joiner’s Naples Park home and smelled cigarette smoke, according to an arrest report. When Joiner walked into her bedroom, she found Rhonda Faye McKinley — her former partner for about 13 years — sitting on her bed. McKinley, 53, was holding Joiner’s 40-caliber Glock handgun, which is also her duty weapon, reports said. “Either you shoot me or I am going to shoot her,” McKinley allegedly told Joiner, according to the report. McKinley then pointed the gun at her head. Joiner wrestled the gun away from McKinley after a brief struggle... Dunfee went outside and called the Sheriff’s Office. McKinley then ran from the scene... According to an arrest report, McKinley’s and Joiner’s relationship ended in May, when McKinley moved out and returned her key to Joiner. Joiner’s and Dunfee’s names were incorrectly redacted from reports obtained by the Daily News over the weekend.... Deputies also found several signs of damage to the house, including holes punched in walls and a $1,000 camera broken. According to the report, McKinley fled the area on foot, but later returned, approached a patrol car and said, “I think you’re looking for me.” She was charged with armed burglary, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and criminal mischief of more than $1,000. 1. In one second everybody's world could have been changed. I am so thankful that everyone lived through that moment.

  2. Me too. Also goes to show that domestic violence isn't just a man/woman issue. It affects gay and lesbians as well.
