A man chosen to be the police chief of Salisbury was arrested in Meredith for allegedly assaulting his wife. The day after selectmen offered the part-time job to 49-year-old Frank Jones of Bow, he was arrested in Meredith and charged with assaulting his wife in a campground. According to a Meredith Police log, a domestic disturbance call was made to police at 5:50 p.m. on July 24 at Clearwater Campground on Route 104. According to the record, the caller — identified only as Steven — was calling on behalf of his mother, Priscilla Jones, who was "grabbed" by Frank Jones, who allegedly would not let his mother leave the trailer. "Steven stated that Jones said he would 'toss his weight' since he is a police officer," the narrative said. According to the record, Steven was able to get his mother out to meet the arriving officers. Jones was arrested around 6:27 p.m. and was charged with simple assault. At 7:45 p.m., he was released on personal recognizance bail. Jones had accepted the offer to become Salisbury's chief but he has not been sworn in. Now the selectmen are waiting to see what happens with the charge. Jones is on administrative leave as a part-time officer with the Belknap County Sheriff's Department and recently resigned as a part-time officer in Litchfield. [Full article here]
