A 26-year veteran of the Cincinnati Fire Department remains on vacation after his Christmas Eve arrest, accused of pointing a gun at and threatening to kill his live-in girlfriend. Wylene Brown Jr., 54, of Colerain Township, was arrested by Hamilton County sheriff's deputies at his home and charged with domestic violence and drug possession. Police say that between 9 p.m. and midnight on Dec. 23, Brown grabbed and pushed Carla Lovett around the house before locking her in their bedroom. After that, police say, he pointed a gun at her and said, "I'm going to kill you and then myself." Police also found marijuana on Brown. Brown, whose annual salary is $56,559, was arrested at 9:15 a.m. Dec. 24. His lawyer, a taxpayer-funded public defender, couldn't be reached Thursday. Brown is free on $100,000 bond. The fire department declared Brown absent without leave and he was not paid while in police custody on the charges. Now, Brown is on active status but on vacation, Assistant Fire Chief Mose Demasi wrote in an e-mail Thursday. Brown will face an administrative hearing after his criminal case is resolved...
