A circuit judge has refused to lower the bond for a former Highmore police chief accused of shooting and killing his wife. Forty-one year-old Ken Huber had his first court appearance in Highmore on a charge of first-degree murder and an alternate count of first-degree manslaughter in the death of his wife, Pamela, who was Highmore's city finance officer. Huber has said his wife was shot October 28th when his pistol fired accidentally in their home. He is being held on a $500,000 cash bond. Circuit Judge James W. Anderson said Tuesday he would not reduce the bond because both charges carry a sentence of up to life in prison.

Murder suspect Ken Huber will enter a plea in court tomorrow in Highmore. Investigators believe he shot his wife Pam Huber in the head and tried to make it look like an accident. Hyde County State's Attorney Jennifer Lowrie is not personally handling the case, because of a conflict of interest. She admits having an affair with Ken Huber, and she arrived at the scene of the shooting before any officers... In Highmore two weeks ago, the Hyde County State's Attorney was the first at the scene. Jennifer Lowrie was in the Huber household shortly after Ken Huber, either accidentally or purposefully, shot his wife Pam in the head. But according to court papers, she wasn't acting as the county's prosecutor. She told investigators she was legally representing Ken Huber and the two were having an affair. Lowrie was immediately removed from the case because of the conflicts of interest... As of right now, Jennifer Lowrie is still acting as the Hyde County State's Attorney. If she does not resign, only the governor has the power to remove her from that position, if she breached any ethics at the crime scene...
