NEW YORK (AP) -- A New York City police officer has been suspended after he was accused of hitting his girlfriend. Police said Roberto Bharat assaulted his 23-year-old girlfriend about 5:00 a.m. on the street in the Bronx. He was off duty at the time of the incident. He faces one count of misdemeanor assault. Bharat has been on the force since July of 2001. [Link]
